June is an “Eventful” Month

- By Garry Douglas
June will be an especially “eventful” month for the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce as we conduct not one, not two, but three major events that all SB readers should take advantage of.
On June 5th every one of you should make a point of visiting BUSINESS EXPO 2003 at the Plattsburgh State University Field House. This remains the only business to business show in the North Country and presents an absolutely unique opportunity to learn, compare, network, connect, and sell.
Where else can you and your key employees go and in just an hour or two have access to 175 booths exhibiting all sorts of prod-ucts and services of potential value to you and your company or organization? And, in some cases, be able to directly compare among competing providers at one site? And then network with hundreds of other business people attending the show? And even attend a free workshop or two as the day goes on?
The opportunity comes just once a year, and is so valuable and so extraordinarily efficient that you should not only make time to attend yourself, but should make certain that a variety of other folks attend from your company as well.
Your purchasing people can check out potential new sources and projects. Your office manager can learn about choices of ser-vices and supplies. Your sales people can meet contacts or perhaps see what competitors are doing. Your human resource manager can learn about the latest choices in employee benefits and training programs. And so on.
The show is free and will be taking place all day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing time for a variety of your people to cycle through, or come together. And lunch is available right on the site, as well as coffee and doughnuts for free during the morning.
But in addition to all of the good business reasons to take the fullest possible advantage of Business Expo, we hope you will see it as an enjoyable and satisfying experience as well. Enjoyable because of the quality exhibits and demonstrations, contents and drawings, and great conversation and networking. And satisfying because Expo truly demonstrates in one place at one time what a strong and diverse business community we have.
We thank this year’s corporate sponsors for making Business Expo possible: Harris Beach LLP, Unicel, TwinState//Voice.Data.Video, Denton Publication, and WPTZ.
Border Summit 2003
On Monday, June 16th, we will join with the Quebec Chamber of Commerce in conducting the second annual Quebec-New York Border Summit carrying on the work of last October’s Border Summit in Champlain. This year’s Summit will again focus on facili-ties and services at our Champlain/Lacolle gateway, and will take place in downtown Montreal.
We expect top officials from both the U.S. and Canadian governments, with sessions covering such timely topics as designs for the new Port of Excellence at Champlain, the FAST accelerated clearance program for commercial goods, the launch of the NEXUS program for fast lane crossings by individuals, the work of the on-going Quebec-New York Multi-Modal Transportation Study and more.
We expect this to be an important and high profile event for the North Country in Montreal and hope to see many of you there. Contact the Chamber at 563-1000 for more program information and registration.
Great Adirondack Car Show
After Business Expo and the Border Summit, we will look forward to the Great Adirondack Antique and Classic Car Show scheduled this year for Sunday, June 29th at the PARC Oval in Plattsburgh.
This has become one of the premier car shows in the region, attracting vehicles in 34 different categories from all over the north-eastern U.S. and Canada. In addition to seeing all of the great cars, the show will again feature a craft show, food vendors, a health and safety fair, and a special display related to the Lozier automobile and the planned Transportation Museum in Plattsburgh.
It’s a fun family outing for everyone, and helps the Chamber carry on all of its promotional efforts as well.
So that makes for three dates to save on your calendars next month. We hope to see you at all three events, and we encourage you to call us at 563-1000 for more information.
