CVPH Medical Center has a tremendous impact on our community as a health care provider, an educator and an employer. Another role the Medical Center plays that may not immediately come to mind is as a fund raiser.

Between 2005 and 2009 the CVPH Foundation ran a successful capital campaign for the new surgical unit that raised $8 million. Last year it raised over $700,000 to support special programs such as:

• The North Country Teen Biggest Loser, an EMT course that teaches how to care for patients with special needs and the expansion of the Saranac River Trail.

• Grants to departments within the Medical Center to enhance patient care.

• Scholarships for CVPH registered nurses who go back to school to earn their Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in nursing.

•Continuing education support for Medical Center staff.

• Assistance for patients and their families who must travel out of state for specialized care not available locally.

• The Circle of Healing and Hope which created a spiritual, meaningful place on the Medical Center grounds.

The work of the Foundation is overseen by a dedicated 20-member Board of Directors made up of community leaders. Kerry Haley is the Foundation’s executive director and the spark plug behind its efforts.

Our quality of life in the North Country is based on a whole host of factors. The Medical Center is a large contributor to the life we enjoy and a resource that cares for us and helps to attract new people to our community. And that’s good for business.
